cps2recomp

Arcade cps2recomp running on PC through recompiled. Free and complete.

How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

CPS-2 Recomp: unofficial native PC ports of Capcom CPS-2 arcade games (Street Fighter Alpha 2, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Vampire Savior) via static recompilation, with training modes, in one launcher: macOS, Linux, Steam Deck, Windows. Requires your own ROM sets. Beta.

Frequently asked

Do I need the original game to play cps2recomp on PC?

No. cps2recomp is free and complete: download the release and run it, with no ROM, dump or commercial game copy.

What does "recompiled" mean?

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Will cps2recomp run on a low-end PC?

Native ports and recompilations skip CPU emulation entirely, so they are usually far lighter than an emulator for the same console. With no published measurement for this project, though, any estimate would be guesswork — test it on your own machine.

Which systems does it support?

The current release (v0.4.0-beta.3) ships builds for Windows, Linux, macOS. The game originally shipped on Arcade.

Is it legal to use?

The project is public and open source, maintained by tmcleroy, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
