How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Experimental static recompilation of Forza Motorsport 4 using ReXGlue. No game files included.

How to install

  1. 01Only one copy is validated: Forza Motorsport 4, Europe Game of the Year edition, title ID 4D530910, media ID 42C67824 — and its disc 1, extracted.
  2. 02An ISO is not enough: the port wants the extracted folder. Directly inside it must sit default.xex, XMediaFacade_default.xex and SpeechFacade_default.xex, plus the full Media tree.
  3. 03Download the Windows x64 ZIP from the latest release, extract it, copy your extracted disc 1 into its game folder, and double-click Launch FM4.bat. The ZIP ships the executable and the required DLLs; no compiler or SDK is needed to play.
  4. 04Disc 2 content goes in separately: extract the four marketplace-content packages from your own disc 2 into one directory, then run the disc 2 install .bat pointing at it. The installer validates each STFS package title ID and content type before accepting it, and packages already installed are skipped.
  5. 05After the disc 2 install, normal launches use the copy in user data and no longer need the source directory.
  6. 06This is an experimental alpha release. Read the project limitations page (docs/PLAYING.md) before reporting a problem.

Frequently asked

Do I need the original game to play Forza Motorsport 4 on PC?

Yes. The project distributes no game data — you supply your own copy or dump. Every project in this scene works this way, and it is what lets them stay publicly hosted on GitHub.

What does "recompiled" mean?

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Will Forza Motorsport 4 run on a low-end PC?

Native ports and recompilations skip CPU emulation entirely, so they are usually far lighter than an emulator for the same console. With no published measurement for this project, though, any estimate would be guesswork — test it on your own machine.

When was Forza Motorsport 4 released?

The original game shipped in 2011, developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios. This PC port is from 2026.

Which systems does it support?

The current release (v0.1.0-alpha.2) ships builds for Windows. The game originally shipped on Xbox 360.

Is it legal to use?

The project is public and open source, maintained by Alexbeav, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
