How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) 1.0.0 recompiled to native Windows and Vulkan. Frame cap up to 240, DLSS option, mouse and keyboard. Open source, mostly written by AI agents. You build it from your own dump; no game files included. Measured on one PC so far.

How to install

  1. 01Supply your own copy of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The project distributes no game files.

  4. 04Extract it into an empty folder outside Program Files.

Frequently asked

Do I need the original game to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on PC?

Yes. The project distributes no game data — you supply your own copy or dump. Every project in this scene works this way, and it is what lets them stay publicly hosted on GitHub.

What does "recompiled" mean?

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Will The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom run on a low-end PC?

Native ports and recompilations skip CPU emulation entirely, so they are usually far lighter than an emulator for the same console. With no published measurement for this project, though, any estimate would be guesswork — test it on your own machine.

When was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom released?

The original game shipped in 2023, developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo. This PC port is from 2026.

Which systems does it support?

The current release (v0.1.8.2) ships builds for Windows. The game originally shipped on Nintendo Switch.

Is it legal to use?

The project is public and open source, maintained by daniel-madrid-07, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
