How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Recompiled. Native for MacOS, iOS, Windows, Linux, and Android.

How to install

  1. 01You need your own disc image of The Wind Waker for GameCube, as .iso or .gcm. A Dolphin .rvz image must be converted first: in Dolphin, right-click the game and choose Convert File.
  2. 02On Windows, download the windows-x64 ZIP from the latest release, unpack the whole ZIP and open BlueWake.exe. The first time, it asks for the disc image.
  3. 03It needs a processor with AVX2 (Intel Haswell from 2013, AMD Ryzen or newer) and a Direct3D 12 graphics card. From version 0.8, older cards get Direct3D 11 instead of a black screen.
  4. 04Coming from Wind Waker Recomp: the project moved here, and saves stay in the same folder (%APPDATA%\BlueWake). Back it up before switching.
  5. 05On Linux there is only a source build for now, with no ready AppImage. Smooth motion is off by default and turns on with F10.

Yes. The project distributes no game data — you supply your own copy or dump. Every project in this scene works this way, and it is what lets them stay publicly hosted on GitHub.

The original game shipped in 2002, developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. This PC port is from 2026.

The project is public and open source, maintained by chrissotraidis, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
