How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Army of Two (Army of 2) 2008 [Xbox360] game static recompilation project based on RexGlue-SDK

How to install

  1. 01There is no prebuilt release here: you build it, and your copy of the game has to be extracted from the Xbox 360 disc, not left as an ISO.
  2. 02The expected dump is the retail release with title ID 4541084C, module hash AA1EA03FEC9A549C and media ID 7E3E9BEA. Verify yours against those values.
  3. 03To extract an ISO you already have, the project points to extract-xiso, which unpacks the disc file tree. To dump the disc and verify it against the hashes, it points to ABGX360.
  4. 04Copy the extracted contents directly into assets/, so that default.xex sits at assets/default.xex with the rest of the disc files beside it (AO2Game/, $SystemUpdate/ and the others). The assets/ folder is gitignored on purpose.
  5. 05Clone with submodules (--recurse-submodules, or git submodule update --init --recursive in an existing clone): the ReXGlue SDK is a pinned submodule and is built together with the game.
  6. 06Build with the CMake presets: win-amd64-release, linux-amd64-release or mac-amd64-release. Translating default.xex into C++ runs automatically as a build step whenever the manifest changes.
  7. 07Requirements: CMake 3.25 or newer, Git, Ninja and Clang/LLVM.

Frequently asked

Do I need the original game to play Army of Two on PC?

Yes. The project distributes no game data — you supply your own copy or dump. Every project in this scene works this way, and it is what lets them stay publicly hosted on GitHub.

What does "recompiled" mean?

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Will Army of Two run on a low-end PC?

Native ports and recompilations skip CPU emulation entirely, so they are usually far lighter than an emulator for the same console. With no published measurement for this project, though, any estimate would be guesswork — test it on your own machine.

When was Army of Two released?

The original game shipped in 2008, developed by EA Montreal and published by Electronic Arts. This PC port is from 2026.

Which systems does it support?

The current release (1.3) ships builds for Windows. The game originally shipped on Xbox 360.

Is it legal to use?

The project is public and open source, maintained by nikolaygorb, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
