How this port works
This is a native port: the game was rebuilt to run as a real PC program with no emulator in the loop. That usually means better performance, arbitrary resolution and mod support — and it is why these run well on modest hardware.
A Crash Team Racing Decompilation Project
How to install
- 01You need your own Crash Team Racing disc image, the US release (NTSC-U).
- 02The format matters and is where nearly everyone trips: it has to be the raw PlayStation BIN, MODE2/2352 sectors, single track. A cooked 2048-byte .iso will not do, because it drops data the game reads.
- 03Download the release for your platform and extract it into an empty folder.
- 04Create a folder called assets beside the executable and put the image there under the name the project expects (ctr-u.bin).
- 05Run ctr_native.exe on Windows, or ctr_native on Linux.
- 06To build it yourself the project uses CMake 3.20 or newer with Visual Studio 2022 (Desktop development with C++) or MSYS2 with the 32-bit GCC. SDL3 ships in the source and is compiled along with it — nothing to install separately.
These projects ship no game data. Supply your own copy.
