How this port works

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Snowboard Kids 2 for PC (Windows/Linux/MacOS)

How to install

  1. 01Only one ROM works: the US version of the Nintendo 64 release of Snowboard Kids 2. This is not an emulator and will not run any other ROM.
  2. 02Formats other than .z64 are converted automatically, as long as it is the correct ROM.
  3. 03Download the release and open the program: it asks for your ROM. Neither the repository nor the releases contain game assets.
  4. 04You need a GPU with Direct3D 12.0 (Shader Model 6), Vulkan 1.2 or Metal Argument Buffers Tier 2. On x86-64 the CPU also needs SSE4.1. On Windows, install the Visual C++ Redistributable.
  5. 05If it crashes on startup, update your graphics driver. Overlays such as MSI Afterburner, and software such as Wallpaper Engine, cause performance problems and can stop the game drawing correctly.
  6. 06The save file lives in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SnowboardKids2Recompiled\saves on Windows, ~/.config on Linux and ~/Library/Application Support on macOS. A portable.txt beside the executable moves everything into its own folder.
  7. 07To change the game you do not change the ROM: you install mods, through the port own mod support.

Frequently asked

Do I need the original game to play Snowboard Kids 2 on PC?

Yes. The project distributes no game data — you supply your own copy or dump. Every project in this scene works this way, and it is what lets them stay publicly hosted on GitHub.

What does "recompiled" mean?

This is a static recompilation: tooling mechanically translates the original console binary into PC code rather than rewriting the game by hand. The result runs natively, typically with an uncapped framerate and widescreen.

Will Snowboard Kids 2 run on a low-end PC?

Native ports and recompilations skip CPU emulation entirely, so they are usually far lighter than an emulator for the same console. With no published measurement for this project, though, any estimate would be guesswork — test it on your own machine.

When was Snowboard Kids 2 released?

The original game shipped in 1999, developed by Racdym and published by Atlus. This PC port is from 2026.

Which systems does it support?

The current release (v2.0.2) ships builds for Windows, Linux, macOS. The game originally shipped on Nintendo 64.

Is it legal to use?

The project is public and open source, maintained by cdlewis, and contains nothing from the commercial game. Responsibility for the game copy you use is yours — which is why the developers require you to supply your own.
